Ticket Sales Roar As V8 Supercars Head For New Zealand
V8 fever has already hit New Zealand with some ticket categories sold out after only two weeks on sale.
For the first time in its 14-year history, the Shell Championship Series is leaving its Australian home and showcasing
this classic Ford vs. Holden battle offshore by bringing a round of the series to New Zealand.
IMG's Director of Motorsport, Mr Geoff Jones said that the support shown by the public for the New Zealand V8
International on November 9-11 was overwhelming.
"We have been blown away by the response from New Zealand motorsport fans," said Jones. "Tickets have only been on sale
for a matter of weeks and we have already sold out all grandstand seating and are close to selling out all corporate
hospitality for the inaugural New Zealand round of the Shell Championship Series.
"The interest has been so strong that we are investigating the possibility of building new grandstands to cater for
demand," said Jones.
Promoters, IMG, will host the New Zealand V8 International at Pukekohe Park Raceway on November 9-11 this year. IMG has
lined up a selection of supporting motor racing action and off-track entertainment for fans of a calibre previously
unseen in this country.
"It is already being billed as a great event, and has been strengthened by the evenness of the competition in the Shell
Championship Series (SCS) so far this year.
"The Ford teams have all improved enormously, highlighted by Kiwi Paul Radisich's clean sweep to take Round 6 of the SCS
last weekend in Western Australia, and it is now three wins to Holden and three to Ford."
Fans will see Kiwi stars Radisch and Greg Murphy go head to head with Aussie drivers such as Mark Skaife, Jason Bright,
Craig Lowndes and exciting rookie Marcos Ambrose. The 600 HP V8 SUPERCARS will thunder around Pukekohe at speeds of over
265 kph. With up to 32 V8 SUPERCARS in the field, they'll make a sight and sound spectacular rarely seen in New Zealand.
"We know the Kiwi drivers are really looking forward to coming home to Pukekohe with the whole V8 SUPERCAR circus in
tow. It's going to be one of the greatest trans-Tasman sporting battles we've seen for some time," says Jones.
