Angela said from her home today that she has been overwhelmed by the kind wishes and care she has received since she was
diagnosed with a brain tumour several weeks ago.
"I have been humbled by the enormous flood of cards, flowers and best wishes from the public," said Angela.
"At one level you know you are part of people's lives, but this has really made me realise how close you get to people,
it's been simply amazing and has boosted my spirits no end. The dozens and dozens of bunches of flowers that arrived at
the hospital lined the corridors of the ward - it was a sight that staff said they have never seen before. I am slowly
working through the supermarket bags full of letters and cards that I received from people all around the country.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my surgeon Andrew Law and staff at the Ascot Hospital in Auckland
who were so helpful and understanding of my condition. It was so reassuring to know that they were on hand to assist in
whatever way they could. "Moving forward, I'll shortly be undergoing six and a half weeks of radiotherapy and before
that stage of treatment, would like to thank everyone for their support at a time when I most needed it. I have been
faring well under the circumstances and will take time out from the public spotlight to recuperate from the next course
of treatment."
