Yippee, Wellington producer 50HZ's vinyl EP is finally out on Wellington based label Breakers Wax, the EP titled Amalga / Descent is getting wicked reviews from UK Drum and Bass Magazine Knowledge, so big ups 50HZ and Breakers Wax, check out your copy at Chelsea Records or Flipside. Staying in the locally produced vein, get along to Concord Dawns album release Disturbance this Saturday at Studio 9, that is after you have checked out the cheeky 2 step and techno fusion Koa's dropping these days at The Matterhorn... and lastly Dimmer plays Bodega both tonight aaand tomorrow night, for those of us who enjoy that rumbling chest cavity wall of sound thing, in an intimate environment too! Friday June 15th - Mu and Vee If Mu and Vee were 8 years old, their mums would separate them, but Mum¹s not at The Matterhorn on Friday nightsŠ Give it up for a kaleidoscopic blend of hip hop, future funk, soul and other fat back beats baked to perfection by Roots Foundation founding member, Fat Freddys front-man and Fonky Monk Mu with his sidekick, monkey about town scratchmeister Vee.
Saturday 16th - Zen & Koa Zen is living the DJs dream; by day he vends crisp tunes from Chelsea Records in Manners Mall bringing the best of it to the Matterhorn and the world on Saturday nights. You can check him out on The Jewel School radio show on Radio Active 89FM from 7-9 every Saturday and down at The Horn from 10pm playing that new West London styles sound, afro Cuban rhythms, salsa, jazz breaks, house beats and more butt wiggling styles than you can wiggle a butt at! This Week: Roots Foundation key player Koa joins Zen for the next two Saturdays and with a fresh swag of vinyl I'm hard pressed to describe what he'll be playing, all I can say is Koa is the king of mixing it up, with one ear on the blackest roots sounds and the other at the front of the new musical spectrum what ever he drops, I know that you'll be lovin' it!
Sunday 17th - The Matterhorn presents Gilles Peterson Worldwide I gotta say WE LOVE GILLESŠ he does pretty well for an in demand international DJ, who attends all the best festivals in the world as well as playing a weekly club night in London, and to top that all off, his Worldwide show plays weekly on BBC¹s Radio One and he records a special version for us. He has long been respected by hip hop and drum n bass artists, while the new breed of garage and house acts cite him as a major influence. Tune in 6-8pm on Radio Active 89FM presented by The Matterhorn.
Wednesday 20th - Jonathan Crayford Crayford¹s band is a compound of experimental and traditional jazz styles. Praised for his work in New York playing with afro cuban percussionist Tito Puente and the man, James Brown, he is now enjoyed in Wellington, playing twice monthly at The Matterhorn. Crayford has assembled a selection of Wellington¹s finest musicians for jam style sessions.
Thursday 21st Expansions with b.lo This Bass Frontiers and Stereo Nasties resident plays a complex blend of soul and technology that goes beyond the surface of music for dancing. Voted by Matterhorn staff as Dj most resembling a socialist dictator B.lo is super serious about his music which means anything from rare jazz, indie, soul, electronica, breaks etc, head music is his speciality.

Wednesday 27th - Slowdeck (AK direct) It's that time of year again when a small group of old school Auckland djs head south to the main lands beautiful Hammner Springs to undergo the '100% Blood Flush' made popular by the Rolling Stone's Keith Richards. Returning revitalised to the North some plan to play a few special gigs on the way, a 'Cure Tour' if you will. So join slowdeck at the peak of perk as he touches down at the capitols Matterhorn for one night only to pack the peace pipe, play some crazy gypsy music and take a brave crack a the man moutain Mu's absinth quaffing crown!
Thursday 28th - Expansions -Smiley Showcase International DJ munter Clinton Smiley returns from the U.S and the continent with a bag full of vinyl, join Jason as he indulges himself and us with all his new tunes, fresh off the boat. And we've given him a whole night for himself so he won't even have to bum-rush! Don't Miss

Saturday 30th - B.lo and Ah Um We're giving hard working Zen a night off, and switching things around this week to accommodate Mr expansions - b.lo and Jewel School beat man - Au Um. Between the two no doubt their will be some serious jazz and tech nerd-ing going on, and a display of the flashest vinyl collections in town.

Wednesday 4th July - Twinset Late Night Sessions Those funky little monkeys Twinset are back for another Wednesday session of lounge and jazz masterpieces. You won't see a better looking jazz band in Wellington and naturally they fit right in down at The Matterhorn in their groovy zoot suits. Twinset play a swinging selection of jazz and lounge classics teamed with a fair swag of their original tunes. It's toe tapping.
Coming soon: The Fabel Records tour featuring DJ Pylon (I have some picks for print media, let me know if you want me to send them to you) and a month long visual installation of "Textual Interior Design on and Exterior Tip" from local artist Justin Haley happening in the still relatively quiet Matterhorn Gardens, both coming in July.
