June Workshop At Nathan Homestead By Popular Artist
Well known professional artist Edwin Rudd will be holding another of his popular workshops in June at the Manurewa Community Arts Centre (Nathan Homestead). Originally from the United States, Rudd trained and worked as a serious artist there before emigrating to New Zealand.
Specialising in landscapes, natural environments and colonial architecture, he has won a number of prestigious awards both in the USA and here in New Zealand. Most recently Rudd was winner of the Supreme Award for Best Painting Overall at the Franklin Arts Festival held in May. Quite simply, his work is beautiful with wonderful colour combinations.
Rudd is kept busy with his commissioned work, judging local art shows and guest appearances speaking about his art and techniques. He takes three water colour classes, a beginners drawing class, as well as a life drawing class each week at the Homestead. Term 3 classes will begin in the third week of July.
Pat Kadarmia, Programme Supervisor at Nathan Homestead says, “Feedback from all his classes has been unanimous. Excellent! I am told he is an enthusiastic and inspiring teacher who communicates extremely well with all his students. His workshops have been very popular.”
All budding artists wishing to hone their painting skills will not be disappointed. Rudd’s workshop will cater for beginners through to more advanced levels. The emphasis will be on in painting people in their environments focusing on skin tones, clothing, light and shadows.
The Nathan Homestead, one of Manukau’s historic buildings is one of the city’s most thriving art and cultural communities. Built in 1925 and situated on 9 acres of exquisite lawn and gardens it is a unique setting for all types of functions. What adds to its charm is the fact it has been kept in its original state.
Seven rooms are available in a variety of sizes for meetings, small conferences, receptions, classes and training seminars. There are year round exhibitions, weekly meetings of a range of user groups and an art and craft market held outside in the summer months in the delightful grounds.
Staff at the Nathan Homestead are constantly looking for new and exciting artists, exhibitions, and workshops to capture the interest of the city’s art enthusiasts. Keep a look out in Manukau City Council’s ‘arts in the city’ quarterly publication for future workshops by Rudd and other talented artists, and for all information on upcoming city-wide arts and events.
