One of the country's leading broadcasters Angela D'Audney has been admitted to an Auckland hospital after being
diagnosed with a brain tumour.
She is expected to undergo surgery tomorrow.
TVNZ's Managing Editor of News & Current Affairs Paul Cutler said the tumour had been detected by a MRI scan late last week.
Mr Cutler said Angela had become concerned only a week earlier when she had difficulty reading scripts on air. "Angela
is a perfectionist and it troubled her that while she could cope with interviews and ad lib's, suddenly she was having
trouble co-ordinating prepared scripts."
Mr Cutler said Angela had subsequently suffered a slight speech impairment. "This symptom of her condition is especially
sad as I have always regarded her enunciation as probably the finest of all the broadcasters I have worked with."
He said Angela was receiving strong support from a group of close friends and colleagues."
