Wednesday 25th - MPC Battle 01 The concept: Each artist or combo makes a track with their MPC Sampler and brings it to The MPC Battle for a beat show down of the Wellington sound in The Matterhorn gardens.
The challenge: DJ MU has been stirring it up by leaving his evil beats as threatening messages on the answer phones of other challengers... "I made this in five minutes, be very afraid".
The MPC Battle 01 starts at 10pm at The Matterhorn and is a free event. Each outfit has to complete their track in under 10 minutes and all tracks must exceed 5 minutes.
The Artists: Mu - The Battle initiator, the man with the fat beats, an old school sampler junkie who's not afraid to play dirty.
Iain Gordon - of Dental Records, Ebb and Bongmaster, a keyboard wizard with his mind on the prize.
Paul and Sean - Wellington's Bass Frontiers Crew represent with their MPC, these rookies will be watched closely by the sampler mafia of Wellington.
Ricki - The DJ from Trinity Roots and player with many Wellington outfits, Ricki has the style to carry off funk, roots and drum and bass, which will he go for?
Warren - Trinity Roots front man and player with many Wellington bands including fat Freddys, does Warren have what it takes to battle his own band mates Mu, Ricki and Iain?
Maka McGreggor - Its the quite ones you have to watch for, Maka is a member of Southside of Bombay and many other musical groupings, what will he drop?
50HZ - The Wellington drum and bass producer has the skills, he is malleable and has varied styles from RnB, house and hip hop, will he do what we expect him to?
Vee - Matterhorn DJ resident and monkey about town, Vee's work with Jazz/hip hop fusion outfit Optimus Prime has Vee's skills primed, will he hip hop or will he surprise the crowd with a new style altogether?
Dallas - The man with the voice closes his mouth for the MPC Battle, this guy has been quietly working on his beats and has got the rest of the challengers worried, watch this man!
Toby Laing - This trumpeter works as a part of 18 bands, this is his first public appearance behind the MPC, this man has the mad soul collection, so expect a few soul surprises amongst his beats.
Cuffy and Leon D - This deep house pair have something jackin' up their sleeves for the battle, but they give no clues as to what their style may be.
