Are 'Organic Homes' the Next Big Trend ?
If the huge interest in the 8th Annual Environmental Building Field Day is anything to go by the move to healthier more
natural homes is becoming as popular as organic food
Event organiser Laurence Boomert, reports a doubling of interest in this years Field Day which is to be held this Sunday
in Titirangi, West Auckland, - but he's not surprised.
"Hardly a day goes by without new health issues coming to light surrounding the chemicals and other materials we use to
build and maintain our homes with." he says.
"Added to which we all know that its time to start reducing our impacts on the environment and what we do in our homes
and gardens can play a big part in that."
The event brings forward a wide range of options for greener building and renovating, and home and garden maintenance.
Alongside Earth Building displays will be alternative systems for electricity and wastewater and natural materials like
wool insulation and hemp fabrics for interior designing.
Renovators will be interested in the range of non toxic paints, oils and varnishes especially for households where
children or people with allergies are present.
Professionals will be on hand to answer the 101 questions people have and there are range of working demonstration to
view.
With exhibitors coming from as far away as Kaitaia, Nelson and the Hawkes Bay the event is now recognised as a national
event
Other exhibitors will include complimentary green products and a focus on Organic gardening principles which organiser
Mr Boomert is particularly keen on, - he was the Organics presenter on the recent series of Maggie's Garden Show.
The event includes an Autumn Earth Day country fair theme so it will be a fun day for the whole family.
It is being held this Sunday, April 1st between 10.00 am and 3.00 pm at the Titirangi Rudolf Steiner School in
Laingholm. (180 Laingholm Drive)
There are lots of great points of interest around the content of this show
EG: Some of the environmental building techniques which are coming into vogue (and will be at the Field Day) are
actually thousands of years old.
Like Earth Building techniques - The Taos Bueblo in New Mexico USA which is built of rammed earth is considered the
longest constantly inhabited buildings in the world - for well over 700 years.
Or Hemp textiles which were first used ten thousand years ago and are are beign used by leading design names like Calvin
Klein and George Armani because of hemps durability and aesthetic qualities (as well as being eco-friendlier).
