Greg Innes, Chief Executive of The Edge®, announced today that Stephen Dee had been appointed to a senior role within The Edge®.
“We are delighted to announce that Mr Dee has agreed to accept the role of Director, Theatre Programming and Development” Mr Innes said.
“Mr Dee will take responsibility for all theatre programming and marketing undertaken by The Edge®, including our performing arts programming, which has in the recent past included sell-out seasons of the Andalusian opera Carmen, the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, and the upcoming Rambert Dance Company season.”
Mr Innes said that Mr Dee’s role will include senior management responsibility for the highly successful Community Arts Programme, which incorporates the ASB Bank Explorer Programme, the Tip Top Outreach Programme, and the Youth Arts Festival.
“In addition Mr Dee will be responsible for further developing our commercial programming, which is primarily undertaken by independent producers and promoters, many of whom work very closely with The Edge® to produce shows such as The Importance of Being Earnest, and The New Rocky Horror Show,” said Mr Innes.
“Mr Dee will be our performing arts champion, both within The Edge®, and in the community generally. We’ve always seen a responsibility to work closely with the performing arts community in Auckland and New Zealand generally, and Mr Dee’s appointment underlines our commitment to continue that involvement. We are confident his appointment will consolidate and build on our reputation for supportive relationships with our performing arts colleagues, and for the excellence and innovation of our programming.”
Mr Dee is no stranger to Auckland. He has an extensive, successful history in the performing arts in Australia and New Zealand, in both the commercial and funded sectors. Mr Dee’s last role in New Zealand was as inaugural general manager of the Auckland Opera Company, now known as the National Business Review New Zealand Opera. He left that position in 1994 to join the Australian arm of major international promoter IMG. Most recently he has been Director, Public Affairs for Australia’s largest university, Monash.
Mr Dee commences his new role in mid March. His initial appointment is until 31 December 2001. During that period he will review the needs of his areas of responsibility and implement plans to secure a high level of performing arts presentation at The Edge® over the coming years.
