Roots Foundation "Dubble-Happy" set to go bang

Published: Thu 26 Oct 2000 09:25 AM
Wellington's Roots Foundation are back in action after a very strong and enjoyable millennium year. This included playing to over 4000 people during a 10-date NZ tour in April, a dose of magical seaside dub with the Whopper-Chopper lads over summer, and the thrashing of Auckland lightweights the "Bureau De Bashment" at a soundclash in August.
The Roots Foundation DJ crew of Mu, Lemon, Koa and Goosebump prepare to spark it up dubwise styles once again on Saturday 4th November 2000 for their 8th birthday celebrations.
Timed to coincide with the eve of Guy Fawkes night, the Roots 8th birthday will another evening to remember, with the Matterhorn transformed into a spectacular dub arena, a full PA upgrade (read: more bass!!) and (rumour has it) a dread fireworks display somewhere in the course of the evening, along with funky free sparklers on arrival and naturally, more explosive reggae sounds than you can shake a dubplate at!
The Roots Foundation birthday nights are the stuff legends are made of, especially the year we gave away the "funny" cake (was it '96?... I don’t quite remember...), and this year's cracking "Dubble Happy" birthday party, with special guest MC Asterix joining the DJs and chatting on the mic, will definitely be one year not to be missed.
Laying their claim to be the Pacific’s longest running sound system, the Roots Foundation will be bringing back their dubwise magic more than once over the coming summer. With a five-hour slot at the Gathering 2001 confirmed, and an extensive outdoor tour at the end of January in the pipeline; NZ`s favourite reggae ambassadors continue to spread their unique take on club culture far and wide.
Dub, reggae, dancehall & ragga riddims, breakbeats & shakebeats, drum & bass, bass & drum, jungle, fungle, electro & house music all mixed up in the deadly Roots Foundation echo chamber... LIGHT FUSE & STAND CLEAR, AI'IGHT!
"DUBBLE-HAPPY": the Roots Foundation's 8th birthday @ Matterhorn Gardens, Saturday 4th November 10pm-6am. DJs MU, Lemon, Koa and Goosebump with special guest MC Asterix.
