Divertissement at The Duke
Following hard on the heels of the very successful Jazz Festival held recently at the Duke of Marlborough Hotel, the
next exciting attraction is a performance by Opera Express on Saturday, 9 September.
“We have arranged a special menu and candlelit settings,” said Dell Gifford, owner of The Duke. “The mood was wonderful
last time these singers performed, and we know it will be popular.
The group is comprised of three leading opera performers together with their accompanist, Clare Caldwell. Together they
put on a tantalising, and sometimes humorous performance, leaving listeners clamouring for more. Ian Campbell is a
baritone members of the NBR New Zealand Opera, having returned to this country after several years in England where he
spent most of his time on tour.
Soprano Kerry Famularo has performed extensively in concert, and has been with the NZ Opera for five years while Allan
Paterson, tenor also performs with the Savoy Singers and extensive concert work.
They are accompanied by Clare Caldwell who is Principal Repeditore for NZ Opera and coaches young emerging artists as
well as filling the role of Assistant Conductor in Auckland for Die Flaudermaus.
“Some people last time were disappointed that they could not attend the dinner,” said Dell. “So this time we have
negotiated a flat rate of $20 per person for the Opera without a meal.
