MP3.CO.NZ LAUNCHES ONLINE TALENT SEARCH
Auckland, New Zealand, 16 August 2000/MediaNet International- AsiaNet/--New Zealand's first Music Service Provider MP3.co.nz has launched an online talent search for musicians who want to reach a global audience.
MP3.co.nz will promote bands and musicians, publicise their gigs and put them in touch with fans worldwide - all without charge.
The website, which will soon be launched to the general public, currently features a sample of local artists in a range of music styles. It encourages musicians to market themselves online by providing free music tracks in the MP3 format. Visitors can download MP3 files or listen to it online using the Windows Media Player.
"MP3 is the most popular search term on the Internet," said MP3.co.nz Vice President Sam King. "Online music is huge. Musicians can use MP3.co.nz to reach a global audience, including talent scouts and new fans. We will showcase Kiwi music worldwide and bring the best of the world's music to local fans," Mr. King said.
Musicians featured on MP3.co.nz get their own web page, which they can customise to promote themselves, their band members and their music. They are encouraged to provide detailed information about themselves and their music such as the style, lyrics, and details of how to buy an album.
The musicians get instant access to fan mail and statistics on how many people hear their music. "The artists retain full control of their web page and their music," Mr. King noted. "They can make updates as often as they like or withdraw tracks if they believe they are getting over-exposed. MP3.co.nz will also keep them regularly informed through e-zines and promotions such as online chat."
MP3.co.nz also wants to help artists sell their music online. "Selling music online is much cheaper than through a shop, so we want to share those benefits with the musicians and their fans," Mr. King said.
MP3.co.nz is backed by the technical expertise of ehyou.com, a public listed Australian company (ASX code EHY) which created Australia's leading digital music website MP3.com.au. ehyou.com has extensive contacts with music producers and will market the New Zealand artists internationally with a range of activities, including CD-ROMs, online magazines, events and other initiatives.
