Pulp Comedy's top comedians will try their hand at sketch comedy in At Least Ya Havin A Go - a comedy special coming to our screens soon thanks to funding from NZ On Air.
Jo Tyndall, NZ On Air Chief Executive, said that when it comes to stand up comedy, Pulp Comedy had produced some real audience favourites.
"This programme will give those same comedians a chance to branch out.
"Part of Pulp Comedy's success has been the live format. At Least Ya Havin A Go will still draw on the energy of a live audience while giving stand up comedians a chance to extend their comedic skills into character-based skits.
"Stand up comedians are not necessarily actors. In sketch comedy, you're performing in a studio without a live audience to feed off and are still expected to be funny - making the transition is going to be quite a challenge," said Ms Tyndall.
At Least Ya Havin A Go is being produced by Mike King - one of New Zealand's most experienced comedians. The five handpicked comedians for the pilot are Dai Henwood, Michael Shadbolt, Simon McKinney, Jan Maree and Justine Smith.
NZ On Air has allocated $109,942 to At Least Ya Havin A Go Productions to produce 1 one-hour sketch comedy pilot of At Least Ya Havin' A Go.
