Huge Interest In Kiwi Mp3 Site

Published: Fri 14 Jul 2000 03:01 PM
Public interest in mp3.net.nz has exceeded all expectations, says Auckland entertainment lawyer Chris Hocquard.
One week into the launch of New Zealand’s first comprehensive mp3 site, visitor numbers have gone through the roof.
“We expected interest in the first week, but the phenomenal number of visitors we have had has blown us away,” says Mr Hocquard.
Well over 20,000 people a day have accessed the site, which launched on Monday 10th July.
“It shows how much New Zealanders want the opportunity to find out about their own music,
“The artists are already feeling the benefits of being involved in the site. We have had enquiries from a record label, and an advertising agency regarding music on our site.
“And, just as importantly, sales of CDs and downloads mean that the artists are already making money from their music – which is partly what we are here to do.”
So far the site has attracted around 50 new artists to upload their music. You can check them, and over 100 others, out on www.mp3.net.nz.
