New Zealand Mp3 Site Signals New Era For Kiwi Music
MONDAY JULY 10
The man behind New Zealand's first comprehensive mp3 site says today's official launch marks the start of an exciting new era for New Zealand music.
Auckland entertainment lawyer Chris Hocquard says his team has developed an innovative new website where young and emerging artists can generate income, and an audience, all without having to battle for a recording contact.
"We have so many talented young artists and bands in New Zealand, yet only a select few have the chance to sign a record deal.
"Our website, www.mp3.net.nz will help to clear the log jam that exists in the industry for new artists, while giving music lovers unprecedented access to all types of New Zealand music.
"There's no doubt the Internet and the MP3 format are going to transform the way we make and listen to music."
mp3.net.nz
mp3.net.nz is first comprehensive mp3 site exclusively devoted to New Zealand music.
Using nothing more advanced than a home computer, New Zealand bands can now upload their tracks and showcase their work on the new website.
Music fans visiting the site can sample these tracks. If you like what you hear you can download it or order a CD. Because mp3 has none of the overheads of normal music retailers the price is significantly lower.
Mr Hocquard says the new venture aims to give the artist more say in the whole process.
"It's up to the groups themselves to determine which tracks are played and how they are presented. And most importantly, the artists will retain ownership of their music."
