AMERICAN LAMMY AWARDS NEW ZEALAND WRITERS FINALISTS
Following a rigorous three-tiered selection process well-known writers and friends Paula Boock and William Taylor have both been named as finalists in the 12th annual Awards of the American Lambda Literary Foundation.
Dare Truth or Promise by Paula Boock, published in New Zealand by Longacre Press and in America by Houghton Mifflin, and The Blue Lawn by William Taylor, published by HarperCollins and Alyson Publications have been named as two of five finalists in the Children/Young Adult section of the awards. Both titles have won awards in the New Zealand Post Children's Book Awards, Dare Truth or Promise winning the Book of the Year Award in 1998.
The Lambda Literary Foundation, a non profit organisation supporting gay and lesbian writers, honours books for their excellence and vision. Titles are selected from thousands of nominations and narrowed down to a single winner in each of twenty categories.
"It is remarkable to have one New Zealand writer on the list let alone two. A Lammy for New Zealand either way would be great," said Paula Boock.
