Tax workers push for new contract
PSA members at Inland Revenue will stop work across the country today (Tuesday, December 7) and hold lunchtime rallies as their campaign for a collective contract intensifies.
Staff are frustrated at the lack of proper ‘good faith’ bargaining shown by IRD management. PSA members remain on a contract that expired more than 18 months ago.
“We have continued talking with IRD but given how far we are apart this is not enough to placate our members,” PSA organiser Jane Douglas said.
“The parliamentary inquiry into IRD produced some significant findings and we believe the best way to get things improving for everyone is to get a progressive and fair contract up” she said.
The change to a Labour-led Government means a change in the way industrial bargaining will be done but IRD workers cannot wait till the new laws are in place and shouldn’t be expected to, Ms Douglas said.
For more comment and information on the details of the rallies please call the PSA organiser, Jane Douglas on 025 418209
