Newlands Gets Early Xmas Present From Vodafone
GSM digital coverage has been significantly boosted in Newlands as part of Vodafone New Zealand Ltd's Christmas extension of its mobile network.
Vodafone's Managing Director John Rohan said the decision to boost coverage in the area was good news for the busy Christmas season.
"The Newlands topography has meant that, up to now, we had difficulty providing good coverage to the area. This new site remedies that, just in time for Christmas!" said Mr Rohan.
"The new cell site will provide excellent in-building coverage, and is located close to the commercial centre. This will be good news to the many businesses in the area that use our digital mobile network.
"The decision to boost coverage in the Newlands area reflects our commitment to ensure Wellingtonians are at the forefront of future technology. Wellingtonians have taken to mobile at a rapid pace, and it's great to be able to strengthen the coverage for such savvy, prolific users.
"Mobile telephony is the future of communications. And the future of mobile is digital - GSM digital", Mr Rohan said.
"In our first two years in New Zealand we are investing more than $200 million, in preparation for the continuing growth of our customer base. The coverage improvements we have made in Wellington is part of this investment programme," said Mr Rohan.

A MERRY MOBILE XMAS PRESENT FOR AUCKLANDERS
GSM digital coverage has been boosted in the Auckland region as part of Vodafone New Zealand Ltd's Christmas extension of its mobile network.
Vodafone's Managing Director John Rohan said the decision to boost coverage in Auckland was good news for the busy Christmas season.
"A new site situated at Victoria Park will boost capacity for Vodafone mobile users along the section of motorway between St Mary's Bay and the Vodafone building," said Mr Rohan.
"Three other new sites complement our existing coverage in the greater Auckland region. One is situated at Pukekohe near Pukeoware, which will extend coverage south to Otaua and Aka Aka. The others are at Waiuku and Onetangi. The Onetangi site will provide coverage to this popular part of Waiheke Island," said Mr Rohan.
"The decision to boost coverage in the Auckland area reflects Auckland's tradition as a city at the forefront of future technology. Aucklanders have taken to mobile at a rapid pace, and it's great to be able to extend the coverage for such prolific users.
"Mobile telephony is the future of communications. And the future of mobile is digital - GSM digital", Mr Rohan said.

GSM digital coverage has been boosted in several rural areas in the North Island, as part of Vodafone New Zealand Ltd's extension of its mobile network.
Vodafone's Managing Director, John Rohan, said the decision to boost coverage in the regions was good news for the busy Christmas season and Millennium parties.
Farmers and residents in Te Karaka, Murupara and Dannevirke are benefiting from extended coverage thanks to Vodafone boosting its nationwide digital network.
"The new cellsite at Te Karaka will provide good coverage to the township and surrounding areas, and builds on our existing coverage in Gisborne.
"Murupara and Dannevirke now enjoy enhanced coverage too. Both these sites add to Vodafone's coverage around these townships and their main highways. This really puts them on the digital mobile map", said Mr Rohan.
