SUN SMART KIWIS ENCOURAGED TO `DRINK SMART' TO AVOID VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY
People concerned that they could be risking vitamin D deficiency due to increased use of sunscreens and protective clothing are being encouraged to `drink-smart' as well as being sun-smart this summer.
The `Drink Smart' message from Tararua is that a single glass (200 ml) of its vitamin enriched milk product, Vita Rich, provides over 25 per cent of the Recommended Daily Intake of vitamin D, as well as similar levels of four other vitamins and iron.
The message follows questions raised by health practitioners yesterday, concerned that covering up to avoid damaging exposure to the sun may be linked to lowered levels of vitamin D, of which the sun is a major source.
Tararua says Vita Rich provides a convenient and reliable way to ensure sun-smart kiwis balance the effects of covering up this summer. Vitamin D is an important nutrient and works with calcium to help maintain strong healthy bones and teeth.
Vita Rich is becoming an increasingly popular way for people with busy lifestyles to ensure they don't miss out on essential nutrients and vitamins - such as vitamin D.
This summer sun-smart and health conscious kiwis are increasingly likely to reach for a cool fresh glass of Vita Rich, as they learn to `drink smart', to balance their sensible exposure to the sun.
