Farmers Launches NZ Meat And Fibre Producers, Meat And Wool Section Changes Name
Federated Farmers today announced that its Meat and Wool Section has changed its name to NEW ZEALAND MEAT AND FIBRE
PRODUCERS. It will continue as an industry group within Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Inc).
The Meat and Wool Section Council voted last week to adopt the new name, and the federation's National Board has
ratified the decision.
"The change of name in time of the new millennium is to better reflect the activities and role of New Zealand sheep and
beef farmers. The Section's old name was internally focused, and more about the Section's role in the federation," said
Chairman Chris Lester.
"The new title, NZ MEAT AND FIBRE PRODUCERS, states much more clearly who the industry group represents, and what the
sheep and beef farming members contribute to the agriculture industry."
"Under the new title, the NZ Meat and Fibre Producers looks forward to continuing to represent the interests of New
Zealand sheep and beef farmers," said Mr Lester.
"Our members also wanted to enable other agricultural sector groups to join forces with us to create an even stronger
lobby group than we currently enjoy as individual organisations," concluded Mr Lester.
Federated Farmers President Alistair Polson welcomed the change, and stated that the new name was a far better
indication of the role of the industry group.
"The Meat and Wool Section does a very good job of representing sheep and beef farmers. The change of title won't alter
that, but will give members and non-members a far better indication of the role of the industry group, and the
importance of the sector to the economy."
