Aucklanders Ashen Faced And Puzzled On Policies

Published: Fri 24 Sep 1999 03:19 PM
Following policy briefings this week, many Auckland business people were having trouble digesting the impact of some opposition parties proposed policies which will mean more conflict and less local co-operation in the workplace.
This follows briefings undertaken by New Zealand Employer's Federation to several hundred Auckland business people over the past two days.
Auckland business people are asking why are opposition parties proposing to repeal the Employment Contracts Act and turn back recent ACC reforms. For generating local jobs and growth, it simply doesn't make sense they say.
Why remove the ability of employers and employees to have successful working partnerships at their local enterprise level. Instead, repeal proposals will mean more conflict - not co-operation. And why are they wanting to remove the incentives for safer workplaces, better rehabilitation, and lower costs?
The several hundred Auckland employers who came along were ashen faced as they realised the impacts of these proposed policies on their employees and their business.
