Rotorua-based Forest Research has recently appointed Ian Lockie as Chief Executive of its subsidiary company IFR
Technologies Ltd. Mr Lockie has extensive senior management experience in various facets of the forestry and wood
processing industries. Most recently he has worked for Carter Holt Harvey where he was involved in establishing their
highly successful fibre recycling business and as their Performance Improvement Strategic Planning Project Leader, Pulp
and Paper.
IFR Technologies Ltd developed and markets the Invader(tm) resource planning system - a suite of Timber Tech brand
tools and software that has revolutionised New Zealand's forestry harvesting operations. Invader(tm) gives factory-like
control of harvesting procedures, with optimal log manufacturing in the forest, stem descriptions accurate enough to be
used for modelling and control of log inventory from a central position - a world first. The system creates more value
from every hectare harvested and allows accurate supply chain management between forest and mill.
Invader(tm) has considerable potential internationally, as other resource planning systems that are being sold to
forest owners around the world have no answer to the forest-to-mill gap. Invader(tm) supplies essential information at
the front end of financial and inventory systems such as:
* Volume and characteristics of all log products produced in widely disbursed log manufacturing sites;
Log stocks at all manufacturing and storage sites;
Contractor production.
In his new role, Mr Lockie will be marketing IFR "products" into various overseas markets, establishing new clients in
the international forestry sector.
