NEW DAIRY ACT ONLY FIRST STEP
"The passing of the Dairy Industry Restructuring Act was a critical first step in the process of improving the performance of the New Zealand dairy industry," said Dairy Farmers of New Zealand Chairman Charlie Pedersen.
"The Act is the result of a close working relationship between the Government and the dairy industry. This has achieved a legislative framework that will hopefully serve the farmers and the nation as well as the sixty-year old legislation the industry currently works under has."
"Federated Farmers are proud to have been part of the process of drafting the Act."
"Now that this important first step is complete, the two further critical steps are Commerce Commission approval and the absolutely vital 75% farmer approval."
"The industry leaders now face the challenge of putting detailed information in front of every dairy farmer to persuade them to vote for the Mega Co-op."
"The industry must pick up the pace of informing the ultimate owners - dairy farmers," concluded Mr Pedersen.
