Jade Reveal ultra-thin Smart Thin Client

Enterprise software development tool vendor JADE Group today unveiled the ultra-thin JADE Smart Thin Client, which requires less than 20% of the bandwidth of a Citrix WinFrame/Terminal Server thin client.
"With the integration of the JADE Smart Thin Client into version 5 of JADE, enterprise developers are now able to deliver over a WAN the kind of full GUI applications previously only practical on high speed LANs," says JADE Group General Manager Owen Scott.
Mr Scott said the power of the JADE Smart Thin Client lay in the fact it was fundamentally 'smarter' than a Citrix/Terminal Server thin client. "The JADE Smart Thin Client is more than a pretty version of a dumb terminal. It knows it is operating in a Windows environment on the client machine and doesn't have to communicate back to the server constantly. What travels between the server and the client is primarily application data - you are not burning up bandwidth by having to communicate every single mouse movement or keyboard event between client and server."
>From tests they have conducted, Mr Scott says JADE Group believe the data travelling between server and client in a typical JADE Smart Thin Client installation is less than 20% of that generated by a comparable Citrix solution.
The JADE Smart Thin Client offers some very powerful possibilities, says Mr Scott. "For example, with JADE enterprise developers now have the end-to-end capability to create a single call centre application running in Sydney that automatically deploys GUIs that look and behave no differently to clients on the LAN, to call centre operators working from home in Europe or Asia."
"JADE 5 equips developers with a complete technology for building e-commerce systems for the enterprise, with untested limits of scalability and unmatched deployment options."
Mr Scott said there is a lot of interest in the JADE Smart Thin Client amongst the JADE Partner community. "We have already seen a ASP provider emerge called JADE Direct which is building its business around the capabilities of this technology."
Mr Scott says the case for thin clients is compelling. "The benefits of thin client architectures in the enterprise computing space are resoundingly clear - easy deployment, enhanced control, better performance, greater security and above all lower TCO. But for the enterprise developer this has meant another layer of complexity, more skills to acquire, more headaches."
"We have integrated JADE Smart Client Technology into the latest version of JADE 5 to eliminate these problems for developers. JADE Smart Client Technology fits very closely with the JADE philosophy - to provide a rich and powerful programming technology for transaction-based systems that shields the developer from unnecessary layers of complexity."
JADE Smart Client TechnologyT extends JADE's multiple deployment options, providing the JADE Smart Thin Client, JADE Java Thin Client and JADE HTML Thin Client in addition to a standard client.
ABOUT JADE JADE is a software programming technology used to build enterprise-class, transaction-based business systems, particularly high volume e-commerce applications.
JADE Group is the company behind JADE. It develops, supports, educates, markets and distributes the JADE product globally. Over 100 JADE Partners, including companies such as IBM, Cardinal Group, Wang and Motherwell Information Systems, use JADE in their product or service offering.
