Dairy Farmers of New Zealand chose a new chairman today at its Annual Conference in Wellington. Charlie Pedersen of Foxton was elected to replace retiring chairman Mark Masters.
Mr Pedersen had been a vice-chairman of the Federated Farmers industry group for the past two years and had represented Manawatu/Rangitikei Province for the six years prior to that.
Mr Pedersen said that he was proud to have been chosen to lead the Dairy Farmers of New Zealand during a time when the industry was undergoing great change.
"There are real challenges ahead for dairy farmers. DFNZ has a large role to play, ensuring that dairy farmers and sharemilkers are well informed and that they retain the final say on industry matters."
"Dairy farmers must have a strong voice on industry matters and DFNZ is the logical body to provide that voice."
"I would like to thank the DFNZ delegates for their support, and I must acknowledge retiring Chairman Mark Masters' huge contribution to the dairy industry and DFNZ."
The rest of the DFNZ Executive will be finalised before the Conference concludes tomorrow (Thursday, 24 June). ENDS
