CUSTOMS TO TAKE PART IN NATIONAL FIELDAYS
Thousands of visitors attending the National Agricultural Fieldays at Mystery Creek this week, will be able to discover two of Customs best kept secrets, while also learning more about the border control agency, and its role in community protection.
The New Zealand Customs Service is bringing two of its popular Golden Labrador drug dogs to Mystery Creek, to take part in several displays involving drug searches.
The public demonstrations will show how the dogs can effectively work with Customs Officers, to deter drug offenders and maintain security at our borders. A selection of Customs videos, publications and information, will also be on public view.
The Fieldays will provide Customs with an excellent opportunity to talk face to face, with those in the local business and farming community, who may not be fully acquainted with the role of Customs, or its services.
"We're there to help," says Ian Perkins, Customs Client Liaison Team Leader.
"The public are not always aware of the wide range of issues that involve the Customs Service. Some mystique about Customs can exist within the community, and it needs to be removed"
"A key focus for Customs is protection of our community, and this week is a great opportunity for the public at large, to identify Customs issues affecting them, and get a better understanding of the wide variety of work carried out by Customs Officers"
"This is a real chance for both the business and wider community to meet the human face of Customs, and find out how we can help in a myriad of ways," he said.
Customs will be at Site 13 Exhibition Building at Mystery Creek.
If you cannot make it to the Fieldays then Customs National Call Centre on 0800 428 786 will always assist you with any Customs related business or travel requirements.
