ASB has been named the winner of the Canstar Innovation Excellence Award following the launch of the innovative ASB ID
mobile app.
The innovative facial biometric app allows customers to verify their identity by comparing a photo of themselves and a
photo of their eligible driver licence or passport, without having to go into a branch.
ASB executive general manager digital, data and brand Simon Tong says since launching thousands of customers have used
the ASB ID app and the feedback has been very positive.
“It’s about giving our customers a choice and giving them some time back in their day. ASB ID can be accessed 24/7 and
customers have commented on how convenient it is to use the app from home or at work.
Previously customers could start the process to join online, but still needed to visit a branch in person with documents
proving their identity and address. ASB ID works on iPhone and Android phones and with a widely held photo ID such as a
New Zealand driver licence, New Zealand and Australian passports.
Canstar says it has recognised ASB's ID app with an Innovation Excellence Award because of the way it seamlessly
integrates biometric scanning technology into its customer sign-up process.

unique and disruptive in combining biometrics with a single step process to offer greater convenience and accessibility
