Buyers jockey for position as top racing stud sells off residential subdivision sites
One of New Zealand's foremost breeding studs has begun selling some of its land as a residential subdivision - supplying the high demand in and around Cambridge for large quality sections.
The land now encompassed by the Oaks Stud has been the home of legendary mare Sunline who won $13 million in prize money during his illustrious 32 win career in the 1990's.
The Oaks Stud also produced New Zealand's Horse of the Year, Seachange, who won a world title along with $1.7 million in prize money.
After purchasing the Oaks Stud in 2002 the owner Dick Karreman set out to increase the land area from 81 hectares to 202 hectares. The acquisition process included the integration of what was Norelands Thoroughbred Stud and an adjoining dairy farm.
However, with new-build residential land now at a premium around Cambridge, Karreman is releasing some of this top quality land to expand the town's boundaries.
The new subdivision will border the existing Oaks Stud farm, which will continue to run and breed thoroughbred champions. Located close to Lake Karapiro and Cambridge town, with its abundance of sporting and schooling opportunities.
The first release, Stage One of 27 sections is being marketed through Bayleys Cambridge, with offers closing on 31st May, 2018.
The new subdivision is to be known as Pukekura, meaning red hills. In the summer sunset the hills become a red colour.
The streets within the subdivision will be named after the successful 'Group One' winning horses that have graced these fields enhancing the 'Town of Champions' tag associated with Cambridge. The streets will be named after famous horses that were born and reared on this land.
Bayleys Cambridge salespeople Alistair Scown and Amanda Merrington said there are 27 sections for sale in the first stage, with further stages opening up in the future, in a controlled manner.
Lifestyle block sized sections at Pukekura will range from 2500msq – 3248msq. The street-lit tarseal drive is already in place with town water, reticulated gas, electricity and telecommunication cabling installed to street boundaries.
