Skybus Auckland Airport Service Set to Hit the One Million Passenger Mark by 2018 Following Recent 11 Per Cent Passenger Increase
Investment in new buses introduced to meet skyrocketing customer demand
Auckland, New Zealand – SkyBus, operators of Auckland’s popular express service from the CBD to Auckland Airport, today announced that its annual passenger count has increased by a significant 11 per cent in the last 12 months, to now service over 900,000 passengers per year.
With the assistance of the Auckland Airport’s transport team, the service has grown on average 10 per cent year-on-year since it started in 2015, with annual passenger volumes expected to reach over one million by 2018.
Mr Michael Sewards, Director of SkyBus comments, “We are extremely pleased with how SkyBus is becoming the preferred mass transit airport service here in Auckland. With a fleet of 20 buses we are completing 200 trips daily to and from Auckland Airport and we estimate this is removing a significant number of cars off the roads every day, at no cost to the taxpayer.”
In August SkyBus invested $3.5m and an additional six new buses to its Auckland fleet, to meet growing customer demand. The new buses are all purpose built with convenient low floor access, generous luggage racks and free Wi-Fi, to further enhance customer service and satisfaction.
Mr Adam Begg, Director of SkyBus, adds, “We are grateful to Auckland Airport for being such an invaluable partner that has contributed to the success of our business here in New Zealand. These new buses are part of our ongoing commitment to invest and innovate to ensure continuing benefits to people choosing SkyBus as their transport option travelling to and from the airport.”
Auckland Airport General Manager Retail and Commercial Richard Barker says the airport’s partnership with SkyBus has provided passengers with a reliable and regular service between the airport and the CBD.
“We are very pleased at the growth Skybus is experiencing and the level of service they provide. Their commitment and investment in Auckland has contributed to easing congestion on our terminal forecourts as more travellers utilise the SkyBus instead of their car.”
Mr Barker says the service has also provided airport precinct staff with discounted fares when travelling to and from work. “This has provided staff with an alternative way of getting to and from work that is heavily discounted and allows them leave the car at home.”
SkyBus operates transfers between Auckland Airport and Auckland City 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with day departures as frequent as every 10 minutes.
For a world-class, reliable and affordable connection service to the airport, SkyBus is the way to go.
