IPMA conference tackles the big property issues
This year’s Independent Property Managers’ Association (IPMA) two-day conference in September promises updates on the
big issues facing managers of residential property rentals.
David Pearse, an IPMA committee member and CEO of Pukeko Rental Managers said: “Of particular interest are insurance and
tenant liability, methamphetamine standards, compliance and health and safety.
“In these areas property managers are putting themselves at risk if they don’t know what they need to do to protect
themselves and their owners. This conference is a concentrated ‘bootcamp’-style conference that will get everyone up to
speed.”
Recently, contamination of properties with methamphetamine has increased risk for property owners. Pearse said:
“Landlords may face bankruptcy if the Tenancy Tribunal rules they will need to pay back to the tenants all their rent
money because of contamination of methamphetamine, or if the property does not meet the Building Code.”
Shaun Podbury is the conference’s keynote speaker. A leading property manager in Queensland, he will focus on portfolio
growth and the future of property management. He will share his story and secrets of his outstanding business success.
As well as other speakers, there will be updates from the Tenancy Tribunal.
Pearse is encouraging registrations. He said: “It is no time for property managers to carry out business as normal. This
is the time for them to get the information and best practice systems they need or face the risk of losing more money
than they can afford.”
