WATER TECH COMPANY REFIL LAUNCHES UNIVERSAL WATER FILTER ENGINEERED TO FIT THOUSANDS OF PLASTIC BOTTLES WORLDWIDE
Today, Refil, a water tech company from Wellington New Zealand, is pleased to launch the Refil V1 - Universal Beverage
Bottle Filter: an activated charcoal filter engineered to fit on 65% of the plastic bottles you would buy off the shelf
at a super market.
Activated charcoal has been long time used within the beverage and alcohol industry, as a way to filter out tastes and
other contaminants found in liquids. Studies have shown 70% of the worlds waterways have been treated with chlorine,
which means the taste of tap water is becoming more distinct with people as population increases and the demand for
water rises.
“The goal with Refil is to use the science of a well known filtering element and combine it with the convenience and
availability of plastic bottled beverages” said Johnny Huynen, inventor of the Refil Filter.
“The number one reason why people choose bottled water over filling up from the tap is the taste factor, as often we’re
left with bleachy or metallic after tastes, and using activated charcoal we can remove those tastes from tap water and
ultimately create a better water drinking experience”
“We’re quite familiar here in New Zealand with refilling up our preloved water bottles as our daily container to drink
from”, “and coming from a country where theres been media coverage regarding shipping our water overseas and the
contamination and chlorine increase in some of our water supplies, Refil is a solution to a lot of these issues that are
raised about our water at the moment.”
Refil uses activated charcoal made from coconut shells for the filter and with an engineered casing, can fit onto the
most common 28mm bottle screw size which is the likes of Coke bottles, pump, h2go, Schweppes, Big Blue, Mt Franklin and
NZ Natural, just to name a few. It can be used for 150 refils of a 700ml bottle, or for 105 litres before the need to
purchase a new Filter, and at $15 each, it works out to be around 10c per refil.
“There’s the opportunity to save 100s if not 1000s of dollars on bottled water each year” said Johnny.
Refil is available for pre order on Kickstarter for $15.00NZD from July 3rd and can ship worldwide.
