Kiwi Experience Passengers Return to Kaikoura
Young travellers excited to visit the bucket-list destination again, just 12 weeks after earthquake threatens the region’s tourist industry.
Kiwi Experience, New Zealand’s largest youth travel bus network, is sending backpackers back to Kaikoura, just twelve weeks after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake rocked the tourist destination and the company successfully airlifted a bus load of passengers out of the area.
Kiwi Experience General Manager, Ben Lane explained:
“Since the November earthquake, we have been looking for a way to return to Kaikoura, so we’re thrilled to be heading back there. The earthquake hasn’t dampened interest from Kiwi Experience passengers at all. In fact, we’ve been fielding requests all summer.”
“For more than 25 years, Kaikoura has been one of the key stops on the Kiwi Experience route,” he added. “It is definitely a bucket-list item for many travellers.”
A partnership with Christchurch based Hassle Free tours will enable Kiwi Experience customers to visit Kaikoura as of this week.
Kiwi Experience customers will be offered a day trip including a scenic journey through the Canterbury plains; a chance to take photos at the seal colony; explore the town; and also have an option to see whales with Whale Watch Kaikoura, or go swimming with dolphins with Encounter Kaikoura.
January saw Kiwi Experience deliver its biggest sales month on record - evidence of the ongoing popularity of New Zealand with young travellers looking to explore the world.
"We’re really pleased to see Kiwi Experience passengers return to Kaikoura - after all Kaikoura is as beautiful as ever with amazing marine life off the coastline well worth taking the time to see,” said Lisa Bond from Whale Watch Kaikoura
Kiwi Experience is widely recognised as one of the best ways for explorers and adventure seekers to see New Zealand. Each year, thousands of young international travellers tour the North and South Islands on the iconic bright green buses. The hop-on, hop-off model means passengers can enjoy flexible guided bus travel, enabling them to tick-off their must do New Zealand experiences with ease.
