Kiwi entertainment company handpicked to run international Fire Festival on Italian Volcano
New Zealand entertainment company Highly Flammable Entertainment has been handpicked to run a major Italian fire dancing festival Festa Del Fuoco (Festival of Fire).
The festival runs for two weeks from the 27th of August on Europe’s most active volcano: the island of Stromboli off the coast of Sicily.
Highly Flammable cofounder Logan Elliott says he’s delighted his company has been chosen to help run the performance coordination and production of the fire festival.
“It’s a perfect fit. Our name says it all really; we specialise in providing entertainment to high energy events full of fire. This time we’re taking the Highly Flammable name literally and we’re really excited to be responsible for help making this year’s Festa Del Fuoco incredible.
The festival features some of the world’s best fire artists who get together every year to entertain and teach other in the ancient art of fire performance.
“The Aztecs have been doing fire dancing for hundreds of years,” says Elliott. “It’s not a new discipline but its popularity has grown massively over the last decade and that means the quality of the performers just gets better and better every year.”
As an entertainment company which also has its own talented artists, Highly Flammable won’t just be helping run the festival, but will also have some of its performers featured in it.
Elliott has performed at Festa del Fuoco before and says it’s a festival like no other.
“Festa del Fuoco is the most high energy festival I’ve ever been to. You’re surrounded by people playing with fire on a volcano which is actively erupting above you. It’s electrifying.”
Elliott has helped out in minor production roles for the festival in the past, but this year he’ll step into a key performance coordination role.
It’s a big milestone for Highly Flammable; a company he founded while still studying at the University of Otago and which now has a talent pool of stilt walkers, jugglers, fire dancers, glow people and a fully reflective “Mirrorman”.
“Since founding in 2010, we’ve become the best in New Zealand for bringing the most exciting and unusual talent to create the best corporate, community, private, and sporting events. Now we’re starting to become recognised around the world as a leader in specialised event entertainment, and that’s hugely rewarding.”
Elliott has created a lifestyle which allows him to be a “digital nomad”: a person who is not bound to a city or country to run their businesses.
He runs his businesses remotely, coordinating his New Zealand based team from around the world, which lets him work on and attend global events. He’s currently travelling in Europe, but keeps New Zealand as his home base for the majority of the year.
Elliott is also the founder of Lifetime Creative, which advises creative entrepreneurs about how to build sustainable businesses.
