Canes give city a big boost, says Chamber

Wellington’s hospitality and retail sector will be set for a big boost if the Hurricanes continue their late run in the Super Rugby competition, says Wellington Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive John Milford.

“Congratulations to the team – what a great achievement in winning the regular season, and with home advantage for the playoffs we are expecting the congratulations to continue past this weekend.

“The bonus is the boost that their home quarter final will bring to the city for bars and cafes, accommodation, and the retail sector.

“Playoff matches have always provided a boost to the city’s coffers, and this weekend will be no different. And if they go further and play a semi-final and then a final – and especially against one of the other New Zealand franchises – that would be a most unexpected boost at a time of the year when things are typically a little quiet.

“It’s just another reason to say ‘Go the ‘Canes’”.
