Helicopter heiress and Brazilian model launch yoga mat brand
Lara Jane Maloney, daughter of the composite-helicopter inventor, and Keli Dierings, a Brazilian model yoga teacher, have partnered to introduce beautiful eco-friendly yoga mats to the booming yoga market under the brand name MUMU.
Dierings, a Clyne Model and yoga instructor for the New Zealand Warriors, says: “We wanted a beautiful yoga mat for our yoga practice, but all we could find were plain colours and the odd design. That’s when we realised there was an opportunity to create our own brand”.
After a long search, a suitable supplier was eventually found. Maloney says “It was really important to us that our yoga mat was eco-friendly, had excellent hand-grip and the surface material was suitable for full-colour printing. We tick all of those boxes”.
Though Maloney and Dierings have their sights set on the international yoga market with their online store www.lovemumu.com, they felt it was important to pay homage to New Zealand. “The word ‘mumu’ means valiant warrior in Maori” says Dierings. “So it was the perfect connection to the warrior poses in yoga, New Zealand, and the essence of the brand”.
