McKay Group has closed on Acquisition of Downer Tenix Kawerau Branch, increases access to mechanical, electrical and
automation engineering services.
For immediate release - July 2nd, 2015 - McKay Group today announced that the Company has closed on the acquisition of a Downer Tenix branch in Kawerau, Bay Of
Plenty. This branch is now officially included in McKay Group’s line up of operations, all of which provide turn-key
solutions to their clients including; electrical engineering and systems integration; automation and control
engineering; software engineering and development; electrical contracting; marine electrical; electrical maintenance,
mechanical engineering and switchboard design and manufacture.
According to Downer management, Downer reviewed this part of the Tenix business and determined that it did not fit with
their core business or growth strategy and therefore decided to sell. Downer recognised that the business unit had great
people with exceptional experience and expertise and that they served many of Downer’s existing clients. Downer were
eager to ensure that the business was sold to a company that would support and grow the team and capability in Kawerau
and provide a seamless service to their clients.
Along with the business unit, McKay has acquired a team of skilled professionals who are electrical and control systems
engineers, electricians, instrument technicians, and mechanical fitters and will use the additional resource to provide
a unique service offering to a new region.

The array of new services will be spread across McKay’s Group of Companies; McKay NZ, McKay USA, MGE New Zealand
(switchboard manufacture). According to Andrew Edwards, McKay’s Chief Operating Officer, the new resources will
strengthen McKay’s various brands whereby customers operating within industrial, commercial, infrastructure and marine
markets can take full advantage of an elevated service that accesses local, New Zealand resources.
