Upgrading to an IT career a popular decision
With the high demand for skilled IT workers by employers and higher than average salaries, many are opting to switch to
a career in IT.

The decision for Neil Metcalfe to study at Computer Power Plus came after many years in retail and realising that for
his financial aspirations he needed to educate himself in an area of interest, and IT held the key. The decision was
made easier by having a first-hand account from his brother who had previously studied at Computer Power Plus in 2009.
As Computer Power Plus uses the self-directed learning model, Neil enjoyed being able to learn at his own pace with the
onus on him to achieve. Neil is proud to state that he completed his Certificate in IT (Client Support) 330 hours ahead
of schedule.
“I will openly admit that I am bright, and I did not want to be slowed down by other students, I wanted to get in there
and go at my own pace.”
Previously Neil studied an accounting degree at university and found that he was merely a face in the crowd. He
appreciated that Computer Power Plus had a smaller campus which enabled less of a lecture hall atmosphere, and it was
much easier to approach instructors for assistance and support.
“As I was working full time I chose Computer Power Plus because of its flexibility. I was not locked down into a
classroom environment”.
Currently working at MYOB as a Client Services Representative, Neil finds that many of the things he learnt at Computer
Power Plus are very relevant. Helpdesk and troubleshooting are used daily and have provided him with a solid
understanding of what is expected in an IT role.
