Get fighting fit this Money Week
New Zealanders are being encouraged to shape up their finances as Money Week 2014 rolls out across the country (13-19
October).
A series of events will get underway next week as part of the nationwide initiative which aims to raise the national
conversation around personal finance matters.
Retirement Commissioner Diane Maxwell said, "This is about being equipped to be on the winning side of your decisions.
We know that worrying about money, how to feed the family and pay the bills, erodes mental bandwidth, confidence, energy
and optimism.
"Building financial stability builds our own personal capability and allows us the space to plan our lives. But it means
knowing where you want to get to, what success looks like and having a plan to get there.”
Up and down the country, the financial literacy community has been galvanised into action – from banks, budget advisors
and community groups, to workplaces and schools.
Now in its third year, Money Week is a nationwide week of events that motivates Kiwis to look at their financial
situation and get their money matters in order. It's a core aspect of the ‘Talk’ stream of the revised National Strategy
for Financial Literacy, which aims to drive a cultural shift around our willingness to talk about money.
In the week's lead up, the Commission has launched a range of digital tools – including a Financial Fitness Check-up (www.fightingfit.org.nz) to help New Zealanders see how fighting fit they are with their money. When completed, it provides tailored tips on
building your financial fitness.
