Daniel Corbett Joins ONE News Weather Team
Meteorologist Daniel Corbett is set to join the ONE News Weather team.
TVNZ’s Head of News and Current Affairs, John Gillespie, is pleased to be welcoming Corbett to the team, where he will present the weather across ONE News platforms.
Gillespie says; “Dan is going to be a huge asset to our Weather team. He has worked all round the world and has a genuine passion for weather, and an enthusiasm that translates through the screen.”
Corbett is excited to return to broadcasting, saying: “I’m really looking forward to getting back into it, and I can’t wait to join the amazing ONE News team with Jim Hickey and Karen Olsen.”
“Doing weather in New Zealand is different to anywhere else in the world. The country sits in between the tropics and Antarctica, surrounded by ocean which means we get these huge contrasts - bringing intense, dramatic weather. It doesn’t come in small doses – it really throws everything at us including the kitchen sink!”
Originally from Essex, UK, Corbett was obtained his BSc in Meteorology from the State University of New York, USA, and went on to work at Universal Weather and Aviation in New York and Houston, Texas.
He began his television career in 1990 at WCFT-TV in Alabama, before moving on to tornado alley and KWTX-TV in Texas. In 2004 he returned to the UK where he broadcast for the BBC (including BBC1, BBC World and BBC News Channel), and well as on BBC Radio.
Corbett moved to New Zealand in 2011 where he began his role with the Met Service as Media and Communications Meteorologist, covering the weather across Australasia.
Viewers will see Daniel Corbett on ONE News Weather from Monday 8 September on TV ONE.
