Queenstown.com launches events directory and feed to syndicate content to third party websites
Well-known local information website Queenstown.com is leading the way in online information syndication launching a new events page which automatically syncs to third party websites.
Launched in 2004 as a one-stop-shop business directory and local information source, Queenstown.com highlights the best places to stay, eat and play in Queenstown, providing new and relevant content for visitors and locals alike.
The newly-created events page is not only the town’s leading source of information for local events but also provides an RSS feed (automatic process of information) which local businesses can easily download to their own website free of charge.
Queenstown.com technical director Uan Spijkerbosch said the new service would not only be the most comprehensive events directory available but also offer new data and information for hotels, motels, lodges and B’s websites.
“Through our work with local accommodation providers we realised that many faced the same problem. They wanted to create regular and relevant new content on their website in order to drive traffic, offer visitors relevant information and improve their search engine ranking,” Mr Spijkerbosch said.
“Individually loading events to your own website is time consuming and it’s time best spent elsewhere in a business. Through our free technology businesses can download the events widgets or use our RSS feeds to add events to their own website.
“This provides regular and relevant new content, saves business owners trawling multiple sites for ‘what’s on’ information, and enables them to create ‘reasons to visit’ packages on their sites based around events.”
A number of local businesses, such as Lomond Lodge, Coronation Lodge, and Prestige Tours are already using the service with great feedback so far.
Owner of Queenstown’s Lomond Lodge Lee Exell said the service delivered “up-to-date event information at a click of a button”.
“We’ve wanted to add in some new and relevant content such as events info, news and blogs for a while but haven’t had the time or resource,” he said.
“The new Queenstown.com feed gives us access to detailed events information and added real value to our website. It’s so easy to use and means we’ve been able to focus on creating packages around key events such as Winter Festival and the NZ Open.”
“By having content that’s interesting and relevant to our guests means they spend longer on our website and become more connected with our business.”
Mr Exell will also be rolling out the events feed to his other business ventures Bella Vista Motel Queenstown and water-based activity Hydro Attack.
As part of the new service, Queenstown.com will pay special attention to major festivals and ticketed events, running ticket and back-stage competitions, writing blogs pre-and-post event, and other additional services.
“While we’re actively adding new events daily we encourage anyone with an event coming up to get in touch.
“Ultimately we’ll be the go-to website for information on key events and get to the heart of some of town‘s biggest crowd pullers.”
Events listed on Queenstown.com will be shared regularly via social feeds including Facebook, Twitter and Google+.
Events will also be distributed to the company’s LiveTouch 42" and 22" touch screens installed in the foyers of various accommodation locations around town – such as Goldridge Hotel, Millbrook Resort, Villa Del Lago, Novotel, Heritage Queenstown, Earnslaw Lodge, Peppers Beacon, Lakeview Holiday Park, Qbox, Creeksyde Holiday Park and Heartland Hotel.
“The reach of the new events page goes beyond just Queenstown.com as events will be shown across a number of platforms, ensuring maximum exposure,” said Mr Spijkerbosch.
“The service is a win-win for Queenstown.com, accommodation and activity website owners, event organisers and members of the public who want just one website they can go to for accurate and up-to-date information on what’s happening in this great town of ours.”
As part of Queenstown.com’s growth plan it will also unveil free information feeds for local weather updates, web cams, flights, news and snow reports later in the year.
“Our goal is to continue to be seen as the main information source for all things Queenstown, providing a clean, reliable and easy to use web resource syndicating our content free to others,” said Mr Spijkerbosch.
