New Institute launches in Wellington
Lower Hutt, 15 July 2014 – The New Zealand Institute of Procurement and Supply Incorporated (NZIPS) has been established to deliver a focus on procurement and supply not only throughout New Zealand but on the global stage for practitioners.
Board Chair Margaret Gilbert says the Institute will cover all matters in terms of buyer, supplier and contracts with the following being the key focus areas:
1. Professional Development – seminars, courses and conferences.
2. Advocacy – of the procurement and supply profession, for procurement and supply chain practitioners and relevant stakeholders.
3. Procurement Forums – to discuss relevant issues and new ideas.
4. Resources- library of publications and resources for members and others.
5. Establishment of Procurement Qualifications relevant for New Zealand.
NZIPS held its Wellington launch on Monday 14 July and will hold the Auckland launch on Monday 28 July in the Auckland Council Chambers, Town Hall.
Executive Director Chris Carson said at the Wellington launch that NZIPS works for both the buyer and supplier as both have a lot in common and this needs to be recognized with mutual issues being explored. This being said there is room for improvement, however, focus will be given to both sides gaining a better understanding of each other and procurement.
“Carson says the aim is to promote and enhance procurement and to recognise what can be achieved if procurement is done right. The influence on the organisation’s ‘bottom line’ and ultimately New Zealand’s economy cannot be under-estimated”.
Board Chair Margaret Gilbert stated that NZIPS will be hosting a procurement conference in August 2015. She believes it’s time for procurement to be formally recognised as a profession in its own right, that It is time for procurement champions and for a procurement ‘voice’ to be heard at the Board table.
