Abodo Wood’s Innovative Wood Products Scoop Green Ribbon Awards 2014
New Zealand natural wood specialist Abodo Wood scooped the Green Economy Award at this year’s Green Ribbon Awards, on
Abodo's range of preservative-free, locally grown cladding products were noted as influential in a drive towards
sustainable, cradle-to-cradle building materials.
Of particular note was Abodo Wood's Elements Vulcan+ and Elements Tundra timber weatherboards, both of which are locally grown, FSC certified and free from chemical preservatives.
“It is fantastic to receive some recognition for the healthy wood products in our Elements range, but we feel more work
is required to reduce New Zealand’s dependence on imported wood species of dubious sustainability. In addition, we feel
the more education is required for New Zealanders on wood preservatives and their effect on people and the environment,”
stated Daniel Gudsell, Abodo Wood Director.
The Green Ribbon Awards, held by the Ministry for the Environment recognise the outstanding contributions made by
individuals, organisations, businesses and communities to protecting and enhancing New Zealand’s environment.
Past Green Ribbon Award winners include Villa Maria Estate, West Coast Blue Penguin Trust, Yealands and Resene Paints.
Abodo Wood is one of the first wood product companies to be recognised under the Green Ribbon Award.
True to their ‘Livable, Durable, Renewable’ ethos, Abodo Wood’s range of cladding products are free of preservatives and
utilise renewable New Zealand plantation wood which is grown sustainably. By using a new technology called Thermal
Modification, combined with a patented vertical grain engineering process, Abodo Wood have created a product that is
highly durable, yet biodegradable at the end of its life.
Some wood preservatives used on locally grown exterior wood cladding render them toxic for people and the environment.
The Abodo Wood product allows the same renewable resource to be used, without the requirement for wood preservatives.
