WeitiBay – a lifestyle hidden secret
Just 10 minutes from Auckland’s northern boundary, what could be called New Zealand’s finest hidden lifestyle secret has begun to take shape at WeitiBay.
Between Long Bay and Whangaparaoa, WeitiBay comprises 850ha of what was previously pine forest now developed into a huge private park, complete with 150 very large lots between 1,500m2 and 2,000m2, as part of a waterfront gated community. Just 30 minutes from downtown Auckland, WeitiBay offers amazing seascape views, all-day sun, and just a short walk to the beautiful beach and the historic Dacre Cottage on the foreshore.
To put the size of WeitiBay in perspective, it’s as large an area as Devonport and Bayswater combined.
With WeitiBay to eventually include a rackets club, fitness centre and swimming pool, equestrian centre and stables, a 20ha mountain bike club, 12 kilometres of new public walkways, a marine centre, and 20ha of conservation gardens, this stunning development is perfect for everybody from young families to those who now have lifestyle properties who want to downsize as the children leave home and don’t want to have to cope with a large landholding.
The first families are expected to begin building around October next year when titles are expected to be issued.
WeitiBay, a joint venture between the family that has owned the land for 30 years and well-known development company Williams Land headed by Evan Williams, has a very strong ecological focus.
“We’re a private group with a lot of experience in a number of coastal properties such as Mataka Station in the Bay of Islands and BreamTail at Mangawhai and we believe in working with great landscapes,” says Evan Williams.
“We pay particular attention to the ecology, the agricultural components, the history and relationship with mana whenua, and the visual aspects of projects such as WeitiBay. Handled carefully, development can fund and enhance the coastline and we have been doing that for many years. At the same time we provide wonderful places to live and work.”
With the first of 83 sections just released for early sale buyers have the opportunity to buy a number of these sections at very advantageous prices, ranging between $795,000 to $1,050,000.
“Because Weiti is an 850 hectare waterfront development with great natural beauty and a large private park close to the CBD, it’s quite unique,” says Evan Williams. “There’s just nothing like it in Australia or New Zealand.”
Accessed from East Coast Road – and ultimately directly from SH1 via Penlink – the Weiti development will also ultimately include the two Weiti Villages with 1050 residential lots, and an expansion being sought.
These villages lie further back from the gated waterfront 150 lot community, but will have unmatched access to the oceanfront and a large private park. School buses will transport children to local schools such as Stella Maris and Kingsway at Silverdale, or Orewa College, there will undoubtedly be a childcare centre, and specialist shops and a superette in the new villages.
“As a company we have majored in marrying development with conservation, protection of taonga and archeological sites, and ecology improvement programmes,” says Evan Williams. “Although Weiti has been 80-90% covered by production pine forest, with 300,000 tonnes of wood having been cut, people on the North Shore have thought of Weiti as a green belt. We accepted a commitment to retain that green belt function and the development we are undertaking will make certain that happens.”
Hundreds of thousands of trees are being planted to replace the pine forest, which will result in a huge boost to the bird life coming onshore off Tiritiri Matangi.
Because of the current development of the land, buyers interested in viewing need to be accompanied into WeitiBay.
