Companies clean up in building services industry ‘Oscars’
Cleaning companies are celebrating sparkling success in the Building Service Contractors of New Zealand (BSC) Clean Sweep Awards.
Winners of the awards, which are sponsored by Staples New Zealand and organised by BSC to recognise the contributions of the cleaning industry, were announced at a dinner at the Clean NZ event in Auckland, last night.
They ranged from privately owned and small-to-medium enterprises to multi-national operations.
Auckland commercial cleaning company That’s Clean, won the Business Innovation category for its cleaning contract with Fisher & Paykel Finance. The company has been established for 25 years, employs 90 staff and services clients across the Auckland region.
Westferry Property Services which specialises in commercial cleaning and maintenance in Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington, won the Health Care - Aged Care Award for its work at a Kapiti rest home.
Waikato company 24/7 Environmental Services carried off the Business Excellence Award for a challenging contract cleaning during development of the greenfield Fonterra Waitoa UHT plant.
ISS Facility Services Auckland took the honours in the Retail, Hospitality or Leisure Space over 15,000 m² category for Sylvia Park Shopping Centre.
OCS Ltd Auckland won the Health Care – Public and Private category for Rotorua Hospital, while OCS Ltd Christchurch won three awards – Industrial Space/Manufacturing for Christchurch Airport, and both Education categories for Buller High School in Westport and CPIT in Christchurch.
ToTal Property Services Canterbury won the award for Offices under 2,500m² for Christchurch City Mission and also Retail, Hospitality or Leisure Space under 15,000 m² for Canterbury Museum. ToTal Property Services Auckland won the offices over 2,500m² award for Westpac Takutai Square, and ToTal Auckland employee Harlym Makea was also named as winner of the BSC New Entrant Achiever Awards.
BSC chief executive Lillian Small said that the awards programme, the first for the building services industry in New Zealand for seven years, had been a major success.
“The industry within New Zealand has really got behind the Clean Sweep Awards,” said Ms Small. “Within the industry we know about that vital work, carried out day in day out and year round providing an essential service to Kiwi communities. However, the contribution made by our members often flies beneath the radar when it comes to public recognition.
“Such programmes are also key to helping to lift the benchmark in industry standards, including in training, health and safety, environmental initiatives and innovation. I want to thank our Diamond sponsor Staples New Zealand together with fellow sponsors Sealed Air Diversey Care, Kimberly-Clark Professional, Lynn River and INCLEAN for making this possible.”
Entries to the awards were open to members of BSC and key criteria included health and safety, cleaning standards, innovation, communication, client relationships and satisfaction, and staff management.
Building Service Contractors of New Zealand Incorporated is a membership organisation representing owner-operators, small-to-medium size companies and all of New Zealand’s major contractors. Members provide general cleaning and a full range of other services such as exterior cleaning. Many manufacturers and suppliers of cleaning chemicals and equipment also belong to BSC as Associate Members.
