The filmmaking world was shaken today by Vimeo’s announcement of their new ‘Copyright Match’ policy. Vimeo are now
scanning all video uploaded to their site for copyright material, such as music, and if any uncopyrighted material is
found, the video-sharing site will instantly remove the video.
Why such big news? Video makers use Vimeo’s private video feature to share their work-in-progress edits with clients and
colleagues. These rough edits often use music that isn’t owned by the client to give a sense of mood and style, but now,
the videos will be taken down and the client won’t see a thing.
