Wellington Hotel Complex First in Nz to Join Enviro-Mark
Quality Hotel Wellington and Comfort Hotel Wellington, have become the first hotels in New Zealand to join the Enviro-Mark® programme and become bronze certified.
Enviro-Mark is a leading New Zealand environment management system programme that provides members with all of the resources needed to implement a credible environmental management system.
The programme involves a five-step journey to improving a company’s environmental performance where organisations starts at “Bronze” and work their way up the ladder to the top certification of “Diamond”.
Quality Hotel Wellington and Comfort Hotel Wellington sit alongside each other in Wellington’s Cuba Street and are under the same management as a part of the CQ Hotels complex.
General Manager of CQ Hotels, Olivier Lacoua, says he joined the programme to ensure the property continues to monitor and improve its environmental performance.
“We’re so pleased to be the first NZ hotel complex to join Enviro-Mark and will continue to work hard on the programme to reach Diamond certification,” says Lacoua.
The certification with Enviro-Mark is just one of many recent significant achievements for the hotel complex. Just last week, they were awarded one of three highly coveted Good Business Egg Awards for their commitment to community health.
The award was presented in recognition of the hotels’ strong relationship with local organisations working with disabled people, its first class response to the recent earthquake in Wellington and their Gold star rating from BE.ACCESSIBLE for the accessibility to and within the hotel complex.
Last week the hotel complex was also nominated by Deaf Aotearoa for the NZSL Accessible Service Award in the New Zealand Sign Language in Action Awards for extensive work with the deaf community and their recent initiative to teach all hotel staff sign language.
Additionally the hotel complex has just been announced as a finalist in the Wellington Gold Awards – the Wellington region’s annual celebration of business. The winners will be announced on 19 June.
“We’re extremely proud of Olivier and his team for their outstanding achievements,” says Choice Hotels’ general manager franchise services, Anthony Stanley. “They are a real leader in the industry. Being the first hotel to join Enviro-Mark is a notable achievement alone without taking into account all of the other recent achievements, we couldn’t be more proud to have this property in our NZ portfolio.”
