Fiordland Conservation Trust Hires New Manager
Fiordland Conservation Trust is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Harry, who has joined the Fiordland
Conservation Trust as its Manager following the recent departure of Rachel Cockburn who held the position for 6 years.
“I was attracted by the Trustees vision, their values and their proven track record in undertaking worthwhile
conservation projects that wouldn’t otherwise be achieved and their encouragement of conservation through partnership
with DOC, individuals, businesses, particularly the younger generation” Laura said. “I believe that encouraging and
providing opportunities for people particularly the young to get involved and understand conservation and the issues
around conservation is one of the best multipliers to truly create change. We all have a part to play in adding our bit
to the ecosystem jigsaw and I truly look forward to playing my part.”
Laura comes to the Trust with extensive experience in the legal and projects fields. Most recently, Laura has been
project managing and capital fundraising for Coastguard Queenstown’s new marine rescue centre at Frankton Marina, a
position she continues to hold. There, amongst other matters she is treasurer, secretary, has led community and business
fundraising efforts, event planning and creating marketing, capital grants and fundraising materials. This background
has helped Laura make an easy transition into her position with the Trust. In addition to her prior project management
and fundraising skills and experience, Laura has extensive experience as a construction & projects lawyer in the UK.
Murray Willans, Chairman of the Fiordland Conservation Trust said “The Trustees are excited with the appointment of
Laura and believe she will bring some fantastic skills to the role. The Trust is now well positioned to grow our
programme of work after Rachel’s excellent work to establish the Trust as a respected conservation organisation."

A charity established in 2007, the Fiordland Conservation Trust is a communitydriven initiative supporting conservation
projects throughout New Zealand with particular focus in Fiordland, Southland, Wakatipu and New Zealand's Sub-Antarctic
Islands. The Trust has worked (and continues to do so) with the Department of Conservation, many different individuals
and businesses to bring about outstanding conservation projects. Several have on-going relationships with the Trust; the
encounters with some of New Zealand’s threatened species and amazing wilderness environments experienced by these people
