TripAdvisor affirms Rotorua’s status as a premiere New Zealand destination
Rotorua has been named as one of the top spots to visit in New Zealand by the world’s largest travel website Trip Advisor.
Yesterday the TripAdvisor revealed the winners of its 2014 Travellers' Choice awards, voting Rotorua as the second choice in the Top 10 New Zealand Destinations and number five among destinations in the wider South Pacific.
These latest rankings come in the wake of last year’s award where TripAdvisor named Rotorua number four in their Top 10 New Zealand destinations and ‘on the rise’ in the South Pacific.
The results come six months into Destination Rotorua Marketing’s Famously Rotorua campaign which aims to increase Rotorua’s popularity as a travel destination by changing the mind-set of domestic and international travellers alike.
The campaign kicked off in September last year and has a focus on highlighting Rotorua district’s stunning natural resources. Market research has shown visitors want to see beautiful, unpretentious and authentic places and Rotorua has an abundance of hidden hot spots ready to explore.
Rotorua District councillor Mike McVicker, who leads the council’s Sustainable Economic Growth Strategy portfolio, says the TripAdvisor ranking is a welcome sign the Famously Rotorua campaign is bearing fruit.
“What we’re seeing is a smart and well planned strategic marketing campaign that’s starting to gain real momentum.
“This is a result of a strong partnership between our tourism industry and the council. Fitting in with our Rotorua 2030 vision this collaboration is about to get even stronger meaning we can expect more great results coming out of the Famously Rotorua campaign in the future.”
TripAdvisor awards are based on millions of travellers' reviews and opinions over the previous 12 months, covering nearly 500 destinations worldwide.
