NETWORK SUMMARY for week ending 23 March 2014
ELECTRICITY
Six car vs. pole/transformer incidents were reported during the week. An incident in Mt Wellington required Telecom
contractors to complete necessary repairs before our contractors were able to restore power.
A handbag was thrown onto power lines in Glen Innes. Contractors safely removed the item, and no customers were affected
– apart from the handbag owner. In another incident on the North Shore, an over height truck drove through power lines,
bringing them down.
Feeder faults were reported on Waiheke Island, in Henderson and in Mairangi Bay. Vector’s network control room provided
regular updates as contractors worked to fix the faults.
Reports of lines down were received for Rothesay Bay, Birkenhead, Mangere, Remuera, Warkworth, Te Hana, Titirangi and
Mangere. Our contractors worked in with emergency services to make the necessary repairs.
A meter board was reported to be on fire in Sandringham. Our contractors advised of power being isolated for safety.
GAS
Third party contractors struck gas pipes as they undertook work in Bethlehem, Paraparaumu, Parnell and Mangere.
PROJECTS
A major project has begun in Takanini. An old oil-filled 33 kV cable (the other is not oil filled) supplying Maraetai
and Waiheke Island is being replaced. There are two sections of work - one section of cable will be replaced with
overhead lines and the other section will be replaced with underground cable. Work on the overhead section along
Airfield Rd includes the replacement of 48 existing power poles with taller poles that are suitable for carrying 33 kV
lines. The underground section of the project involves the installation of more than two kilometres of underground
cable. This section has to remain underground as it is adjacent to the Ardmore Aerodrome. Directional drilling and
trenching along Airfield, Alfriston-Ardmore, and Clevedon-Takanini Roads has begun, with the project scheduled for
completion in June 2014.
