Bayleys international tender brings Kiwi ex-pats home
A luxury home on a 10 hectare lifestyle block in Esk Valley just north of Napier has sold for an undisclosed sum through
an international tender process.
The 300 square metre three-bedroom/three bathroom home was bought by an ex-pat
New Zealand family who plan to return to the area from many years living offshore.
The sale was brokered by Jo and Rex Lorigan and Hadley Brown of Bayleys Hawke’s Bay.
Mr Lorigan said the sale process for the property attracted strong interest from potential buyers in the UK, USA,
Australia, Fiji, Singapore, and Hong Kong. In addition, families from Hawke’s Bay and elsewhere in the North Island
showed active interest in buying the property. The tender process brought the best buyer to the fore and a sale was
negotiated quickly after tenders closed.
“A river runs through part of the property, but as the successful purchasers are New Zealand citizens – albeit living
abroad – there was no need to seek Overseas Investment Office approval and the whole process was relatively
straightforward,” Mr Lorigan said.
“The property has a horticultural crop planted on approximately one-half of the land, and this has been generating
income for the previous owners. The new owners said the opportunity for trout fishing on their back yard, combined with
the avenue for running a boutique home business were two of the big attractions which leaned them towards buying the
property.”
Mr Lorigan said that by taking the property to tender internationally the marketing process opened up a far wider
potential buyer audience for the vendor.
“And we turned out to be right” he said.
