Design contract awarded for Te Puna/Minden Road intersection upgrade
The NZ Transport Agency has awarded a design contract to upgrade the Te Puna / Minden Road intersection on State Highway 2 (SH2) to Opus Consultants. A roundabout was identified as the best solution to improve this busy intersection.
Transport Agency Highways Manager, Brett Gliddon says traffic volumes are expected to increase with the predicted residential and commercial growth in the area and this will lead to more traffic using the SH2 Minden Road/Te Puna Road intersection.
Mr Gliddon says, with the initial investigation complete, the project will move to the next stage with Opus undertaking the detailed design and has a contract value of $135k. Funding and timings for construction will be confirmed later in the year.
This intersection upgrade will provide safety benefits for SH2 motorists and the wider Te Puna community. The Transport Agency is working closely with the Western Bay of Plenty District Council to ensure the various community interest groups are informed and consulted.
